The FOTKA Newsletter Archive

Recent Editions and Archive

As with so much of current FoTKA ‘s activities, the credit for the origin of the Newsletter belongs to the late Pam Combes. I became her co-editor soon after joining the committee in 2011. Because she knew everyone concerned with the East Sussex Record Office, and with archives in East Sussex and beyond, she was able to commission interesting and distinctive contributions from a wide range of writers. Just before I joined, the frequency of the Newsletter was reduced from three times a year to twice, in the spring and autumn, which makes the task more manageable. About the same time, we were able to transform the appearance by moving to colour printing. . We owe much to our experienced designer, Mary Avis, who translates a collection of illustrations and related text into a coherent presentation.

The Newsletter has documented the move from the Maltings to The Keep, including the visit of Her Majesty the Queen. The County Archivist keeps members up to date with news from the Keep as it continues to develop its personality with the partners. The Senior Archivist and his staff contribute regular articles on important and enlightening additions to the archive. Members have been encouraged to take part in the modern Mass Observation survey , and the archive of the Brighton Museum has come up with eyecatching and quirky posters and photographs to illustrate unusual aspects of our history. The visit programmes is showcased with accounts of privileged visits to places of interest.

The Newsletter is well-established as a service to our members. Editing it is enjoyable, and  I continue to learn from each issue. I would welcome comments and suggestions for future articles.
